UFOs/UAPs

Shawn, Why Are You Fascinated By This Phenomena?

In my life I have seen 6 anomalous aerial phenomena in my life, the first one when I was 7 or 8 years old and the last one quite unexpectedly recently at 63 years of age. I think that some of these, perhaps 3, could and probably do have perfectly logical explanations. Let’s assume they do. So then there are three sightings, one of which my wife also saw at the exact same time, that cannot be easily explained.

Since the observation/experience that occurred when I was 18, I have read many books on this subject. And it is true that I enjoyed Sci Fi before that experience and still do to this day. But I have no good explanations for three of these sightings since 1977. But help is on the way to explain UAP’s, see Investigations Underway below.

Quick Introduction to UFO/UAP Reports

In February of 2023 National Geographic made a 5 episode miniseries, a true documentary on UFO/UAP investigations. This was professionally done and looks at the history, science, investigators and difficulties in getting the US Government to release data that it has. But things are improving quickly! I first highly recommend watching all 5 episodes through your Disney account or on Hulu to come up to date on this phenomena and the people involved:

Here is a great and thorough compilation of quotes from various informed people discussing this subject from Pilots to Presidents:

United States UFO/UAP Investigations Underway

I am glad that there are now (at least) six different primary agencies in the USA (that we know of) investigating UAPs / UFOs! I hope they come to some conclusions in the next year or two, and I hope they are able to share their data with the rest of us:

1) US MILITARY:  All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO)

The mission of the AARO will be to synchronize efforts across the Department of Defense, and with other U.S. federal departments and agencies, to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in, on or near military installations, operating areas, training areas, special use airspace and other areas of interest, and, as necessary, to mitigate any associated threats to safety of operations and national security. This includes anomalous, unidentified space, airborne, submerged and transmedium objects.

2) NASA’s Independent Study Team on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena

“NASA really is uniquely positioned to address UAP, because we know how to use the tools of science and data to discern what might be happening out there in the skies,…”

3) SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence)

In a 2016 interview, Jill Tarter pointed out that it is still a misconception that SETI and UFOs are related. She states, “SETI uses the tools of the astronomer to attempt to find evidence of somebody else’s technology coming from a great distance. If we ever claim detection of a signal, we will provide evidence and data that can be independently confirmed. UFOs—none of the above.”

4) MUFON (est 1969) (Mutual UFO Network)
(but this organization can be a bit shaky scientifically due to its involvement with Hollywood, television, acceptance of abductions, shady UFOlogists, etc.)

Our Goals…

I. Investigate UFO sightings and collect the data in the MUFON Database for use by researchers worldwide.

II. Promote research on UFOs to discover the true nature of the phenomenon, with an eye towards scientific breakthroughs, and improving life on our planet.

III. Educate the public on the UFO phenomenon and its potential impact on society.

5) GALILEO PROJECT

Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb is one of the few scientific efforts to study UFOs or UAPs. Loeb criticized that the study of UAP is often dismissed and not sufficiently studied by scientists and should shift from “occupying the talking points of national security administrators and politicians” to the realm of science.[183] The Galileo Project’s position after the publication of the 2021 UFO Report by the U.S. Intelligence community is that the scientific community needs to “systematically, scientifically and transparently look for potential evidence of extraterrestrial technological equipment”.

6) ASA (Americans for Safe Aerospace)

Americans for Safe Aerospace is a former military pilot led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to aerospace safety and national security with a focus on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). ASA was founded by Ryan Graves, a former Lieutenant U.S. Navy F/A-18 pilot, who was the first active duty pilot to come forward to Congress about UAPs.

My Last Sighting

The Roswell Lights?

August 15, 2022

Whenever I, being a former pilot and a lover of aviation, see anything in the sky, I always try to identify the aircraft immediately (just ask Robyn!) When I can’t, I open my Flightradar24 app to see what it was. This time I am stumped. I’m sharing this with my friends and family to get their opinion and see if they have had a similar experience.

So a week ago I went out for my normal nightly walk (hot here in Summer in daytime). I choose to walk around our large Walmart/Sam’s Club complex because it is well lit, people are around as employees are working all night stocking inventory at Walmart. Some of the neighborhoods around where we live are not as well lit and a little bit scarier. To be frank, late at night and in our small town, Walmart/Sam’s Club is the most exciting place in town! 😕

On that particular evening it was very late and as I was walking behind Walmart I saw a yellowish light cross the sky and move behind a tree and I thought it was appearing to move only because I was walking. I believed it must be a medflight helicopter coming from north of town and moving towards one of our two hospitals in town heading straight towards me. I assumed it must be quite far away as it was dim and yellowish. So the next time I saw it, I stopped walking and it still moved from left to right but went behind the tree branches. I thought this craft must be way off in the distance and was moving left to right on its own across the sky from west to east. As I continued my walk, I could occasionally see a yellowish very dim light slowly appear in the sky out of nowhere and continue slowly moving from left to right for a few seconds and then slowly fade out. There were no navigation lights and there was no sound. I then opened up my aviation app to see what this craft could be. There were no aircraft with transponders on, no aircraft within a hundred miles. Often military aircraft are not seen on these apps on purpose. I thought it would be odd for slow moving military aircraft to make no noise and be flying at low altitude at 1AM with a weak yellowish light and no nav lights or spotlights aimed down or anywhere. These objects were not exceptionally high and moved slowly and not always at the same altitude. The moon was quite prominent and next to Jupiter that night and to my south. There were some transmission lines across the field so I thought perhaps this was a reflection of a light going across them. But I also thought the lines were lower than what I was seeing and upon reflection (pun!) they sagged, and the objects I was seeing moved in a straight line.

I went back and took some pictures in the daytime and attached them. You can see the transmission lines. That was my best theory. I came back on three occasions at night around the same time to see if this UAP would appear again. It/they did not. When I saw these lights there were no cars at the intersection to even possibly cause reflections. It was quiet and there was not much traffic at 1AM on a Monday morning. It was fascinating but a little bit creepy because I couldn’t figure out what it was I was looking at. I took a total of six pictures with my iPhone, the only camera I had with me. The lights stopped and I then drove north of town and parked my car on the side of the road, turned off my engine and spent 15-20 minutes looking all over the sky and listening. Nada, nothing, very quiet. After I got home I downloaded the pictures from the Apple cloud and looked at them on my 40 inch TV. I have an older iPhone that doesn’t do great at night. It is just not as sensitive as the newer iPhones. I couldn’t see anything. I was disappointed and thought even though the yellowish lights were dim I was hoping they might be captured. I then used my Linux GNU Image program (poor man’s Photoshop) on each of the 5 photos and increased the exposure and adjusted the darkness level. When I did, I could either see stars or pixelation or nothing in the background but in the last picture I took, I saw something in the sky where I had seen it with my naked eyes! I am also attaching it to this email. You are welcome to analyze it and do whatever you want with it. I will also attach a couple of other mods I made on this picture after I manipulated it to show what stars.

I am not saying these were early morning aliens or that it was an artificial intelligence or a demonic spirit or people flying at 1:00AM with no noise in the sky and no navigation lights (totally illegal). I don’t know what I saw but you’ve got the actual picture attached so you can manipulate it however you want. If you learn something interesting, please share it with me, even if it shows I took a picture of a reflective bird or insect or an alien waving at me. Thank you!

In addition, later on Monday I called Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM where our city often gets C-130s flying over our city at 10-20,000 feet in the daytime doing holding patterns (with their ADS-B transmitting data enabled). I was directed to their Public Relations office. I asked if they had any operations to the north of Roswell at about 1AM. He thought it would be odd if they did and took down my information and said he would have someone call me back. So far they have not called me back.

So, this is now the sixth anomalous thing I’ve seen in my life. The first two occurred when I was a child and can be easily explained. The third occurrence happened when I was 18 near Marina, California (a few miles south of Monterey where Robyn and I were married in 2010). The 4th-6th events have occurred since 2019 with Robyn seeing the 4th with me and her mom the 5th on another occasion. I admit I love Sci Fi and believe that life other than that on this earth is predicted based upon science and mathematical probability. On any of these 6 occasions was I looking for little green men or apparitions in the sky? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Have I used the principle of Ockham’s Razor to try to rationally and scientifically explain each occurrence? Yes. What Is My Conclusion? I don’t know.

So have you seen an UAP/UFO? If yes, what do you believe it was?

A Few UFO/UAP Investigators/Researchers

There are many self proclaimed ‘Ufologists.’ Some have never even seen an UFO/UAP. Some are shysters that just want to get a following and make money writing books and traveling from UFO convention to UFO convention. I like the three below. Two that I would highly recommend you should ignore are Bob Lazar and Steven M. Greer as both have been found out to be liars and scam artists.
